How to Ideas!

Make your own holiday cards

Ingredients
cardstock or posterboard in desired colors
origami or art paper, magazine pictures, stickers, or printed designs
glue stick
scissors
optional: rubber stamps of your choice, lace, ribbon

1. Cut neat squares or rectangles of the cardstock in a size you like. (For guidelines, a typical postcard is about 3.5 x 5.5 inches, and a folded greeting card ranges from a tiny 2-inch square to as big as you like. An 8.5 x 11" piece of paper makes two nice-sized folded cards, or four postcards.) If you want to do a folded card, remember to double the size you want the finished card to be, and make a neat crease down the spine of the card! While you’ve got all your stuff out, you might as well do a few cards at a time, either lots of similar ones or highly personalized ones.

2. Cut out the images you like with an eye to arranging them on the card. Well-spaced geometric shapes in bold designs look great on a simple card, or use a collage of pictures or other papers to create a blanket effect. Pinking shears or other paper edgers can be cool. Rubber stamps around the images make a nice border or design, too.

3. Once you know what you like, get out that glue stick. Evenly glue the backs of the decorative papers. They will probably start to curl, but you can smooth them down onto the card with your fingers. Make sure to get the edges glued down well. Once the glue is set, you can finish with a coat of Mod Podge if desired.

4. If you have a sewing machine with heavy-duty needles, you can carefully sew a piece of lace or ribbon onto the card if you want to. Or hand-sew something on: use a straight pin or pushpin to pierce small holes where your stitches need to go, then sew on the decoration by hand, tying a knot on the inside of the card.
